A Granbury chiropractor and his hiking group have been reported missing after a flash flood swept through the Grand Canyon on Saturday, his wife said on social media.
Chiropractor John Giusti, with ChiroHabit in Granbury, was hiking in the Grand Canyon over the weekend with a group, his wife Janet Giusti said in a statement posted to Facebook by Whipple City Family Chiropractic. According to the post, John Giusti and the group have been reported missing and unaccounted for after a flash flood hit the area where Giusti was camping.
An estimated 15 people are missing, and one person was killed when a storm caused a major flash flood to move through the Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area Saturday, according to the Associated Press. The body of an unidentified 46-year-old man was recovered Sunday evening near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River, the National Park Service said in a news release.
“Dr. John is the heart of ChiroHabit, but above all, he is a deeply loved husband, father and pillar of our family,” Janet Giusti said in the shared statement. “We ask our ChiroHabit community to please lift up my husband, his hiking group, and our families in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”
The chiropractic office said in the post that they will be taking donations for the Giusti family.
The flash flood caused extensive damage to infrastructure in the inner canyon and more than 60 people were airlifted from from the area, AP reports. Park services are working to identify the remaining missing Grand Canyon visitors and backpackers.
