A Texas man is now accused of attempting to sell a human skull on Facebook marketplace according to law enforcement. According to KXAN, a man from Kyle, Texas allegedly placed the ad on the social media platform.
How Police Discovered the Facebook Marketplace Listing
The Kyle Police Department began investigating this unusual ad on March 1 after receiving a report that a person was attempting to sell a real human skull online for $3,500. Investigators identified the seller as 24-year-old Sean Edward Shymkiw through the profile connected to the listing. Police say that by the time they saw the post it was already active for multiple weeks.
Officers made contact with Shymkiw at his apartment where he told law enforcement that he purchased the skull from a science website but never identified the exact website. He told officers the listing was meant as a joke and the skull had already been moved out of the apartment.

Police Attempted to Recover the Skull
Police asked Shymkiw to bring the skull to the department, but he never complied with the request. Police did match details in the listing photo to the apartment where Shymkiw lived.
A forensic anthropology expert who reviewed the images said the skull appeared human but would need to be examined in-person for confirmation. Police confirmed the skull was never recovered.
Felony Charge Filed in Texas Case
Shymkiw is charged with the purchase or sale of human organs, which is a felony in Texas.
