Austin police identify man killed in shooting outside North Lamar restaurant; teen suspect—

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police have identified the man killed in a shooting outside a North Austin restaurant over the weekend and say the suspected shooter is a 16-year-old who remains at large.
According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded around 12:34 a.m. Saturday, reports of a shooting at Los Braseros Mexican Restaurant, located at 9207 North Lamar Blvd.
Callers told dispatchers someone had been shot and the suspect had fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 35-year-old Andres Omar Reyes, lying in the parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds.
Austin-Travis County EMS attempted lifesaving measures, but Reyes was pronounced dead at 12:46 a.m.
Investigators say Reyes had intervened in a physical altercation involving friends and family members from another group when he was shot by a 16-year-old suspect.
Police said an employee at the restaurant managed to wrestle the firearm away from the suspect before the teen fled the scene.

The case is being investigated as Austin’s 24th homicide of 2026.
