Houston man pays for express delivery on DoorDash. 2 hours later, he’s still waiting. Then he tracks the driver:‘This is proof tipping doesn’t matter’—
A Houston man spent extra money for DoorDash’s express delivery service. Then two different workers stole his food. Now he wants the company to do something about it.
In a viral TikTok video with 783,500 views, user Mario Reynolds (@mariotothetop) explained how the delivery company allowed its workers to steal his food and then refused to refund him.
It all started when he placed an order with the app that included a tip and extra fee for express service.
When the driver arrived at the store to pick up the food, he cancelled the order.
The app said it would find him another nearby driver. However, when she arrived to pick up the food, it had already been picked up by the previous delivery worker.
“So basically he stole my food and just cancelled it,” the man said.
How Did DoorDash Resolve The Problem?
The restaurant said it could not give her another order until it was placed again through the app.
DoorDash refunded the customer his money so he could put in the order again.
“So they just cancelled it and credited me my money back,” Reynolds explained.
However, the saga did not end there.
After he placed his order again, a dasher was able to pick it up.
Allegedly, she got all the way to the man’s apartment building but still failed to deliver the order.
That driver decided to cancel his order again after having difficulty locating his exact apartment.
That’s when things got especially problematic.
Did DoorDash Refuse To Refund Money To A Customer?
According to Reynolds, DoorDash refused to refund him his money, even though he never even received his food.
The driver had marked his order as “complete.”
After he contacted the company yet again, they only agreed to refund the man $6. He argued that he spent nearly $30 on the meal and should have received a larger refund.
The company disagreed and said it would escalate the issue for review.
Then, after a brief review period, they still refused to issue a full refund.
“So y’all let these DoorDashers steal my [expletive] food two different times within a one-hour span?” he said in the video.
He also implored the company to fix the issue.
The Mary Sue reached out to DoorDash and a representative said the customer was credited for the missing food and also “provided an additional amount for the inconvenience.”
What Is DoorDash’s Refund Policy?
According to DoorDash’s terms and conditions, charges paid by a customer for completed and delivered orders are “final and non-refundable.”
The terms and conditions also explained that the company does not have to provide refunds but may issue them on a case-by-case basis.
So, the customer was not automatically entitled to a refund once the dasher marked the order as completed.
Viewers Express Frustration
In the video’s comments section, many viewers expressed frustration with delivery services.
“That happened to me before!!! I got a $7 credit for a $44 meal,” user Kimberly Gay wrote.
Another wrote, “I swear doordash and ubers eats needs a class action lawsuit.”
“I never use DoorDash anymore. I’m sick of them taking MULTIPLE orders and I get my food cold…. They shouldn’t be allowed to take more than one order at a time,” user karmakudosgirl said.
Others said tipping on the app can sometimes just create more problems with service.
“This is proof tipping doesn’t matter,” user Nicolacola said.
The Mary Sue reached out to Mario Reynolds via TikTok direct message for comment.
