Texas woman killed in Edwards County crash—

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 34-year-old woman from Hale County, Texas, is dead after a head-on crash reported Thursday afternoon on US 50 (Highway 50), near Kinsley in Edwards County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, driven by the Texas woman, Sara Garza, was traveling east on Highway 50 when Garza attempted to pass a semi that was also eastbound.
A 2007 Chevy Silverado, driven by a 17-year-old boy from Lewis (in Edwards County), was traveling west on Highway as Garza attempted to pass the semi.
The KHP report said the drivers of the jeep and the pickup “tried to avoid each other” before the vehicles crashed head-on. The report noted that Garza’s jeep then struck a semi as a result of the initial collision in the westbound lane of Highway 50 “and the counterclockwise rotation.”
The 17-year-old pickup driver from Edwards County was seriously injured and taken to Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley.
The semi driver wasn’t injured.
