Houston authorities are trying to piece together how a man’s body ended up in Brays Bayou early Wednesday morning.
Details are limited due to how active the investigation is, but the Houston Police Department confirmed receiving a call from someone walking near the bayou on Martin Luther King Boulevard near the University of Houston a little after 7 a.m.
It’s unclear how the man died, and investigators are awaiting autopsy results before determining the cause of death.
Chron reached out to HPD, the Houston Fire Department, and the University of Houston for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.
Wednesday’s discovery comes two days after Houston police reported another man’s body found along the banks of the Buffalo Bayou Ship Channel. Investigators said the man’s body was discovered by workers in the area. Despite no apparent wounds or trauma on the body, HPD reported he was in a state of decomposition.
In 2026, at least six bodies have been recovered from Houston-area bayous so far. While the bodies found do not appear to be connected, the reports have been a high point of tension for residents.
Chron previously reported in 2025 that forensic investigators documented more than 30 people whose bodies were recovered from local bayous, with causes of death ranging from drug-related drownings to blunt-force trauma—and a long list of cases that remain a mystery.
