A man is in custody after a missing Alabama woman was found dead eight days after she disappeared.
Randall Lendell Dejourney is facing charges of abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of Karen Hollis, according to a statement from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Hollis was last seen, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, around midnight on May 8, near 43rd Avenue in Northport, Alabama. Northport Police said the 23-year-old was believed to be “living with a condition that may impair her judgement” as they pleaded for help in finding her.
“Early in the investigation, evidence suggested that foul play may have been involved,” the sheriff’s office added in their statement. “As a result, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit began working jointly with the Northport Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. This case has been a priority for both agencies.”
As the search for Hollis got underway, investigators executed multiple search warrants and gathered “extensive physical, witness and electronic evidence” in the case that led them to a person of interest, per the sheriff’s office.
At the time, however, Hollis remained missing.
Then, on the afternoon of May 16, family and friends discovered Hollis’ remains in Greene County while searching an area they had identified through electronic evidence. After the discovery, the sheriff’s office said the person of interest in the case was “immediately detained.”
Dejourney is currently being held in the county jail on a $15,000 cash bond.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jack Kennedy told Oxygen.com that the investigation remains ongoing and “no other comments will be made until it is complete.”
According to the sheriff’s office, additional charges could be filed pending the results of Hollis’ autopsy.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Medical Examiner has been tasked with determining Hollis’ cause and manner of death.
Oxygen.com reached out to the medical examiner’s office but did not receive an immediate response.
It’s unclear whether Dejourney has an attorney. Oxygen.com reached out to the Tuscaloosa County Office of the Public Defender, but did not receive an immediate reply.
