TYE, Texas (KTXS) — A Texas woman was indicted after authorities said she left her 3-year-old child alone in an apartment while she went out to bars with a friend.
Court documents state that in September, Justice Moncibaiz, of Tye, allegedly left the child unattended at an apartment complex.
According to police, officers were called to the apartments after neighbors found the child sitting at the bottom of a staircase wearing a soiled diaper.
Investigators said officers located an unlocked apartment believed to belong to the child, but no adults were inside. Police reportedly found mail addressed to Moncibaiz in the apartment.
Authorities said Moncibaiz arrived at the apartment about 40 minutes after being contacted by officers.
Police said Moncibaiz initially told investigators she had left the child with a relative, but she was unable to provide contact information for that person.
A few days later, investigators said Moncibaiz admitted she “needed a night out” and had gone to a couple of bars with a friend.
Moncibaiz was later arrested and charged with abandoning a child with intent to return.
