Houston police investigate infant death; woman detained at scene—
Homicide detectives have responded to the scene of a reported infant death in west Houston on Friday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
Details are limited at this time.
Houston police say they were called around 3:45 a.m. after the baby’s mother called 911 from an apartment on South Dairy Ashford Road near Westheimer Road, reporting that the child was bleeding. When officers arrived, they confirmed the infant had died.
Police said the child was a 3-month-old boy. A sergeant at the scene said there was a small visible amount of blood coming from the baby’s nose, but no physical signs of injuries were observed.
Investigators say it’s not yet clear what caused the child’s death, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine what happened.
Police say a woman has been detained at the scene. She was seen in the back of a patrol car and appeared visibly distressed, according to KHOU 11 crews at the scene.
Authorities also said several people were taken to HPD headquarters for questioning, and it does not appear that any arrests will be made at this time.
KHOU 11 crews observed several police vehicles and an ambulance at the location, though the scene did not appear highly active. No crime scene tape was observed, though officers appeared to be focused on one unit at the apartment complex.
Officials are also waiting on a search warrant for the apartment as the investigation continues.
