Dallas police recently reported that a man is now facing a murder charge for an altercation that occurred in July.
At about 11:10 p.m. the day after the Fourth of July, officers responded to the 2600 block of Main Street and found that 21-year-old Josiah Gomez and 26-year-old Sylvester Victor, Jr. had fought. This culminated in “Gomez push(ing) Victor down a flight of stairs and then stomp(ing) on his head,” according to The DPD Beat. At the time, Victor was sent to the hospital in critical condition, but Gomez wasn’t arrested until July 22.
Victor passed away as a result of his injuries last week on Aug. 6, according to Dallas County Medical Examiner records. The DPD Beat said Gomez was previously facing an aggravated assault with serious bodily injury charge, but that has now been upgraded to murder. As of writing this, he is currently in Dallas County jail in connection with a marijuana possession charge as well, and his bond is $280,000.

Also in Deep Ellum crime news, another shooting took place this weekend. A man is reportedly in critical condition after a Saturday night incident.
Dallas police came to the 2700 block of Elm Street prior to midnight after gunshots were heard in the area and found the wounded man, who was taken to the hospital, WFAA reports. The suspect is unknown, and no arrests have been made yet.
