Woman in Texas dies from brain-eating amoeba after clearing her sinuses with RV tap water—
TEXAS — A Texas woman died after contracting a brain-eating amoeba from tap water she used to clear out her sinuses.
A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigation found that the 71-year-old woman got sick four days after using a nasal irrigation device filled with tap water from an RV at a Texas campground.
The CDC says the woman developed a fever, seizures and an “altered mental status” before eventually dying.
