Waskom ISD leader found dead in I-20 crash in Shreveport, elderly woman dies in separate crash

Waskom ISD leader found dead in I-20 crash in Shreveport, elderly woman dies in separate crash—

Shreveport Police are investigating two weekend fatalities involving traffic incidents with victims who may have experienced medical emergencies that caused their deaths.
The Caddo Coroner’s Office has released the name of the Texas man who died Saturday in a single-vehicle accident in west Shreveport, while the identity of a woman who died Friday in a head-on collision has yet to be announced.

Christopher Guastella, 51, was pronounced dead at Ochsner LSU Health at 2:10 p.m. Saturday. He was the superintendent of the Waskom, Texas, Independent School District with 17 years of education experience.

Officers were called to the scene of the incident at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Bert Kouns Industrial Loop just before 1:30 p.m.

A woman, 90, who died Friday around 6 p.m. in a head-on collision at N. Market Street and Interstate 220 has not been named.

Shreveport Police believe Guastella’s to be a single-vehicle crash. According to SPD’s early information, the Waskom, Texas, resident, “may have experienced a medical emergency prior to leaving the roadway.”

Similarly, information from SPD is that investigators believe the unnamed woman’s death “appears to be related to underlying medical issues rather than the collision itself.”
