This Bass Caused a Huge Stir at a Texas Fishing Tournament—

Fishing tournaments in Texas are a really big deal; there’s prize money, bragging rights, and usually a few big fish stories by the end of the day. But one recent tournament may have produced a fish tale that officials say went a little too far.
Authorities say a Texas angler is now facing charges after a largemouth bass raised serious red flags during a tournament weigh-in, turning a normal fishing competition into a full-blown investigation.
The Bass That Raised Eyebrows Across Texas
According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, tournament officials noticed something unusual when a bass was brought in for weigh-in.
During routine checks, the fish reportedly set off a metal detector, which immediately caught the attention of officials. When investigators examined the bass more closely, they discovered several metal weights inside the fish, which officials believe were placed there to make the catch appear heavier.
That discovery quickly turned a fishing tournament into something much more serious.
Game Wardens Say the Evidence Didn’t End With the Fish

Authorities say their investigation didn’t stop at the bass. Game wardens later searched the angler’s boat and reportedly found additional weights similar to the ones discovered inside the fish.
Officials identified the angler as Curtis Lee Daniels, who was arrested in connection with the incident.

Fishing tournaments across Texas often come with large prize pools and strict rules designed to keep the competition fair. Because the tournament involved more than $10,000 in prize money, officials say the alleged violation carries significant legal consequences.

If convicted, the angler could face hefty fines, possible prison time, and the loss of his fishing license! What will he do on the weekends if he loses that?
