Texas man caught with 125 pounds of marijuana on I-80, deputies say—
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Texas man has been arrested while driving through Lincoln, after deputies say he was found with 125 pounds of marijuana stashed inside of his van.
On Monday at 2:36 p.m., the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop on I-80 near mile marker 397, after a white Ford Econoline was observed speeding through a construction zone, according to an arrest affidavit.
In the affidavit, law enforcement says the driver told deputies he was transporting 120 pounds of hemp to Omaha. The court document goes on to say that after the deputy requested and was denied a search of the van, they deployed a canine to sniff out the vehicle.
The deputy then says after the canine was alerted to the smell of illegal narcotics, they conducted a probable cause search, according to the affidavit. The document then says six cardboard boxes towards the back of the van were found, filled with turkey style plastic bags the canine had sniffed out. Court documents go on to say a CBD/THC test was conducted, and the substance tested positive for THC and not CBD, proving the product was not hemp.
