Vols defeat Texas A&M basketball in double overtime
Tennessee (11-5, 1-2 SEC) defeated Texas A&M (13-3, 3-0 SEC), 87-72, in double overtime on Tuesday at Food City Center.
The Vols and Aggies are not ranked this week in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The Vols are receiving 45 votes, while Texas A&M has 13 votes.
Tennessee scored 21 bench points, 34 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, 22 second chance points and 10 fast break points against Texas A&M.
Nate Ament led the Vols in scoring with 23 points. He converted 7-of-16 field goal attempts and 9-of-11 free throw attempts. Ament also totaled seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Felix Okpara led Tennessee in rebounds (12), while Ja’Kobi Gillepsie was the Vols’ leader in assists (five).
Tennessee will next play on Saturday against Kentucky at Food City Center. Tipoff between the Vols and Wildcats is slated for noon EST. The contest will be televised by ESPN.
