South Texas man pleads guilty to cocaine trafficking charges—
BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A 48-year-old man from South Texas has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver nearly 29 kilograms of cocaine, according to U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. Jorge Rafael Perez, who drove a white Chevrolet Tahoe to the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint on July 19, was found with 24 vacuum-sealed bundles of cocaine hidden in his vehicle.
During a secondary inspection, an x-ray scan revealed a lead-lined wall in the passenger side of the vehicle, leading authorities to discover the cocaine in the rear quarter panel. Field tests confirmed the substance was cocaine, weighing approximately 28.94 kilograms. Perez admitted to knowingly transporting the drugs from Edinburg with the intention of delivering them to San Antonio, stated the source.
