John Elway Officially Cleared in Golf Cart Accident That Killed His Agent, Jeff Sperbeck—
California authorities have officially cleared John Elway in the April death of his longtime friend and agent, Jeff Sperbeck, who suffered a fatal head injury after falling from the back of a golf cart Elway was driving at a private resort.
In a July 14 press release provided to TODAY.com by the Riverside County Sheriff, the department confirmed it had determined Sperbeck’s death was a “tragic accident” and it had found “no evidence of criminal activity or intent.”
“Consequently,nocriminalchargeswillbefiledatthistime,andthecasewillbedocumentedasanaccidentaldeath,”thereleasereads.
Sperbeck,alongtimeNFLcontractadvisor,diedonApril26,2025,attheageof62,accordingtotheNationalFootballLeague.HebeganrepresentingElwayin1990whentheathleteplayedfortheDenverBroncosasaquarterback.
