SAN BENITO — City Manager Fred Sandoval is proposing an $18.9 million general fund budget while raising employees’ minimum wage as commissioners plan to create a drainage crew while mulling cutting the tax rate.

The proposed budget’s nearly $1 million bigger than the current budget, with additional money coming out of unassigned funds, City Commissioner Pete Galvan said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, “unprecedented growth” is helping boost the local economy, City Commissioner Tom Goodman said.
