Three Valley firefighters have joined the fight against the ongoing wildfires in California that have ravaged the Los Angeles area.
Battalion Chief Sergio Vasquez, Engineer Jesus Gonzalez, and Engineer Carlos Cavazos of the Pharr Fire Department made the over 1,500-mile journey to Los Angeles early Saturday morning, joining a 22-member group of South Texas firefighters, known as the Alamo Strike Team.
“My understanding is that most of the fire is in the brush and the undergrowth that occurs in that part of the country,” Pharr Fire Chief Pilar Rodriguez said. “They’re there to keep (the fire) from jumping into the urbanized areas, in other words, where there’s homes and buildings.”
